Denkibou is one of the antagonists that appears in Evanescent Encounter (Part 1) and Evanescent Encounter (Part 2) in the anime series Samurai Champloo.
Appearance[]
Denkibou is a deformed human who has gray skin. He was yellow hair, a red shirt and fanatical eyes. One of his eyes is larger than the other, and its implied he had his deformed skin due to the explosion caused by Mukuro. He is constantly slouched or crouched.
Personality[]
Denkibou doesn't speak much and showcases extreme aggressivity driven by his fierce hatred for Mugen, making him closer to a beast than to a human. He seems to have psychological problems as he is barely able to control his outbursts of rage and speaks outloud to try to reason with himself, to no avail. He is also cocky, as he taunted Mugen multiple times.
Background[]
Denkibou does not physically appear in Misguided Miscreants (Part 1), but he and his brothers Umanosuke and Toube were government officials who were on a boat guarding supplies. However, they were attacked by Mukuro and his henchmen, including Mugen. Mukuro exploded the ship to get rid of Mugen, but as a result the explosion severely deformed Denkibou and his brothers. Vowing revenge, the trio have been tracking Mugen and his friends.
Plot[]
While tracking down Mugen, they come across a traveler that Umanosuke kills. Denkibou and his brothers stop by the restaurant and inquire about their targets' whereabouts, however when the owner tries to snitch on the brothers, Denkibou mercilessly kills him.
The three brothers manage to find Fuu when she reaches Seizo Kasumi's island. Umanosuke and Toube hold Fuu hostage while Denkibou goes back to the island where Mugen and Jin are fighting against Kariya Kagetoki. Denkibou tells them to go to the church on the island, or else bad things will happen to Fuu.
Back out on the boat to go rescue Fuu, Mugen is surprised by Denkibou's presence. Despite being told to do nothing until they get to the island, he attacks Mugen. The two fight, maneuvering as best they can on the boat's limited space, until the fight ends up underwater. Denkibou stabs Mugen through the hand, while Mugen stabs Denkibou directly through the chest, killing him.
Fighting Style[]
Denkibou aggressively rushes to his opponent to hurt him with his claws and double-bladed version of a naginata. He is very agile and swift, easily evading attacks and using the momentum of his flips and spins to enhance the damage inflicted by his weapons.
He is able to injure Mugen, noting that his close range fighting style is useless on the tiny space of the boat.
