Aohabu is a character in the Samurai Champloo episode Beatbox Bandits. He is the leader of the tengu warrior priests in a forest rumored to be full of tengu.

Personality[]

Aohabu is a determined man who makes loud and confident speeches to his followers. He is angry at the current shogunate for being ruled by indulgent and ignorant samurai, who only care about achieving power. While wearing his tengu outfit, he wears a red mask, whereas the other warrior priests wear white tengu masks. Without his mask on, he wears a striped bandana around his head, and has a small beard.

History[]

Aohabu is first seen in a forest chasing Mugen, who is trying to deliver a severed human head. He and his priests have difficulty chasing Mugen until he falls into a hole trap. After capturing Mugen, he gives a speech to dozens of warrior priests about the corruption of samurai and the government, and promises his men a revolution. The priests are all smoking pipes of marijuana from their huge marijuana field. He brings out Mugen to show them what a subservient government lapdog is like, but Mugen tells him he does not bow down to the government, which piques Aohabu. He has the priests lock him in a storage room so that they can execute him the next day.

Yamane has followed Mugen and tries to free him, but is knocked out by a warrior priest. Yamane gets out of his straw bundle and lights a fire to lure one of the priests in, and he knocks out the priest. He and Mugen try to flee as the fire rages, but they are surrounded by Aohabu and his warrior priests. Aohabu is mad at Mugen for subduing his men and starting the fire, and the two of them get into a (drug) high fight. As the marijuana smoke enclouds the area, Aohabu, Mugen, and Yamane happily party together, and the priests dance the night away.
