Ichiemon (伊知衛門) is a commentator of events in Japan. He appears in Stranger Searching as a commentator in an Edo eating contest, and later appears in Baseball Blues as a commentator on a baseball game between the American navy and a Japanese port village. He is voiced by Isshin Chiba in the original Japanese version and voiced by Dave Mallow in the English dub.
Appearance[]
Ichiemon is an adult man of Japanese descent. He has short black hair which he covers with a small white pointed sunshade. He also wears circular glasses and a light blue robe over a dark blue kimono.
History[]
In episode 6, Ichiemon serves as the commentator of an eating contest, where he mentions the contestants' names as well as naming them once more when each one drops out. When he announces the names, he cannot pronounce the name of the European contestant Joji Titsingh, but is nonetheless impressed by his eating skills. During the contest, he announces Jin's loss as well as Mugen's. Fuu continues to eat many bowls of food and stands off against Joji. When Fuu sees a fly and smacks it with two hands, Ichiemon mistakes her gesture as the surrender gesture, making Joji the winner.
Later in episode 23 when the American navy forces Japanese villagers to play a game of baseball to determine if the Americans leave or not, Ichiemon serves as a commentator once more. He first makes note of Mugen and Jin's attempts to use their sword styles as a batting stance. Later in the game when the Americans start intentionally physically hurting the Japanese players, Ichiemon is surprised and remarks that the game is now a game to the death. When Mugen fights the remaining American baseball players, Mugen and the last American fall to the ground, with Ichiemon stating the game could be marked as incomplete, but Mugen gets up, making the Japanese players the winning team.
