Matsunosuke Shibui (渋井 松之介, Shibui Matsunosuke) is the local magistrate and the father of Tomonoshin Shibui who is first seen ordering Jin and Mugen's execution. In the flashback he is seen extorting taxes from the local populace, having his Yagyuu guards defeated by Jin, and arresting and torturing Jin and Mugen for a crime they did not commit. He was killed by Jin after attempted execution.

Appearance[]

Matsunosuke has brown receding hair in the style of a short pony tail, with side-burns that almost reach the bottom of his ear. He has a bulgy face with butt chin and a mustache.

He wears a brown jacket with black stars inside a circle on each side. He wears a beige kimono under this jacket, and wears his sword on his left side.

Personality[]

Matsunosuke has shown to be a heartless, bossy and stubborn man. He is also quite cowardly when his bodyguards are dispatched by Jin he immediately starts groveling for mercy.

Etymology[]

  • The name Matsunosuke means "pine tree, fir tree" (松) (matsu), "this" (之) (no) and "help, assist" (介) (suke).
  • Matsunosuke's surname Shibui means "astringent, hesitate, reluctant, have diarrhea" (渋) (shibu) and "well, mine shaft, pit" (井) (i).
